And, BUGS!
They are bad this year. The deer ticks especially. I have had more people calling me for Bug Guard than in any of the years I have been selling Avon. One customer told me she found four ticks on herself after attending her son’s baseball game. Yuck! Be sure to always check yourself for ticks after you’ve been outside, even if you’re just cutting the grass or washing the car. And check your doggo too! Ticks carry Lyme disease, which is nothing to mess with and can have a lasting impact on your health.
Mosquitoes are another problem bug. They carry diseases as well, and they are especially active at dawn and dusk. Make sure there is no standing water around where people are congregating – a bucket left outside, a bird bath, a puddle. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, and then you have thousands more mosquitoes!
Of course, there are lots more biting bugs in the summer to be watchful for. Horse flies, gnats, no-seeums, sand flies – it makes me shudder just to think about them all.
But never fear – if you’re prepared with your Bug Guard, you’ll be safe from all of these tiny varmints!

Household Uses
It kills ants instantly, and if you spray it around where they’re coming in, they won’t come back.
It’s a good wood cleaner and conditioner for natural wood.
Use like Goof Off to remove glue residue from price stickers on glass, metal, and most plastics.
It removes soap scum from shower doors, shower curtains, and bathroom and kitchen fixtures.
It removes hard water deposits from fixtures, tile, shower doors, and windows.
It works as a lubricant for fitting pipe joints that won’t slip together.
It cleans ink off of most vinyl and painted surfaces.
It cleans heavy oil and grease from non-porous surfaces.
It takes animal fur off of clothing and other fabrics.
Rub some on brass ornaments or figurines to help keep them from turning dark.
It removes crayon marks from walls and appliances.
Mix it in your cleaning water to keep ants out of your cupboards.
Use it to discourage hornets from rebuilding their nests. After killing the hornets and removing the nest, keep the area sprayed with Skin So Soft, and they will not return.
Use it to clean leather and keep it soft and supple.
Use it on your air conditioner filter – your incoming air will smell fresher and the filter will be easier to clean.
It’s a great cleaner for paint brushes and leaves them soft.
It removes chewing gum from carpets.
It removes scuff marks from patent leather shoes and purses.
Use it on the rails for sliding glass doors and windows.
It removes “ring around the collar.”
It removes Liquid Nails (paneling glue).
If you have two glass bowls or tumblers stuck together, drizzle a little Skin So Soft in between and they’ll come apart easily.
It removes candle wax from furniture, carpet, and clothing.
Deter bees from your hummingbird feeder by rubbing a little Skin So Soft on the feeder by the ports.
Spray in your outdoor garbage cans and clean them with soapy water to keep flies from laying eggs in them. Nothing is grosser than maggots!
Put some in a lawn sprayer bottle attached to your hose and spray down your yard to keep the bug population down.
Spray on rose bushes to keep the deer from eating them (will have to try this on my tiger lilies; the deer eat them every year as soon as they bloom!).
It kills spiders and those awful earwigs, too.
It cuts grease and dirt from range hoods.
Add a capful to your wash water – it acts as a fabric softener and keeps bugs away from your clothes.
Spray on orchids and other flowers for moisture and to keep bugs away.
To clean baseball caps, spray on Skin So Soft and rub with an old toothbrush.
Mix 1 part Skin So Soft and 2 parts water, spray on tomato plants to keep the tomato worms away. Spray every 2 to 3 days.
Use it to clean windows.
Spray your screens lightly to keep the little gnats and other noseeums out.
Use the spray as a room deodorizer to kill pet odors.
Use it to clean mini blinds.
Pets and Other Critters
It’s a great insect repellent for your pet (as recommended in Outdoor Life and Field and Stream).
Mix 5 parts water, 1 part Skin So Soft in a spray bottle and mist on animals, then brush it in to make their coat gleam and keep bugs off.
Put some in your pet’s bath water to keep fleas away.
Rub some on your hands after working with pets and farm animals. It will remove the strong smells.
Black fly spray for dogs (use as a spray or dip): 1 cup Skin So Soft, 1/2 cup liquid detergent, and 3 gallons of water.
For pets with dry skin problems, mix 1 Tbsp. Skin So Soft with 1 gallon of water and use as an after-bath rinse or spray on the pet’s coat once a week.
