You love your Avon products, right?
But do you know how to protect yourself from scammers and old, outdated products when shopping for them?
It seems simple – just go to Avon.com, the company’s site. And yet, there are literally hundreds of other sites vying for your dollars, not all of them on the up-and-up.
Here are a few tips for getting the best value and avoiding the scammers.
1. Shop With a Rep
When shopping on Avon.com, make sure you are logged in to the site and are connected to your Avon Representative (his or her name and picture will be at the top of the page).
If you’re not logged in, you will be charged full retail price for your products. When you shop with a Rep, you receive the discounted price, as well as any current special offers such as Buy One-Get One Free, Gift with Purchase, etc.
2. Get Free Shipping
Your orders of $60+ get Free Shipping every day of the year – so stock up on your favorites, and browse the whole site to find things you didn’t even know Avon had!
For instance, did you know that Avon has amazing cleaning products for your home? LG Electronics? Socks? Toothpaste? Fashion? Yes, you can get it all on Avon.com. It’s a virtual department store!
3. Get Exclusive Offers
When you are logged in to your account, go to your Profile and make sure you are opted-in for emails so you will receive exclusive, unadvertised offers. These offers may come from Avon Corporate, or from your Representative who can create custom offers just for you!
To get to your profile on a computer, go to where it says “Hi, YourName” at the top of the page and click on My Profile. On mobile, tap the hamburger menu at the top of the page and then tap My Profile.
Then, scroll down until you see Communication Preferences and click Edit. Here, you can choose the frequency and types of emails you would like to receive. This can be changed at any time.
4. Avoid Shopping on Unauthorized Sites
Avon Representatives are not permitted to sell on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Amazon, WalMart, Poshmark, and the like. This also applies to standalone sites created by an individual to sell products. We are only allowed to sell directly to consumers via face-to-face interaction or through our online stores. If you see current Avon products on these sites, the seller is in violation of Avon’s policies. Not only that, but the Avon 45-day money-back guarantee will not apply if you don’t buy directly from Avon or an authorized Avon Representative.
I have seen an individual who had a standalone site selling Avon products for more than three times what they cost on Avon.com, and people were buying from her. She was charging customers exorbitant prices through her own site, collecting their money, and then placing the order through her online store and drop-shipping to the customer’s address, keeping the extra money for herself.
Please be careful! Check the URL at the top of your browser and make sure it has the lock symbol and starts with avon.com.
The scammer in question was eventually caught by Avon Corporate and her account was closed. But there are so many scammers out there, it is hard for the company to keep up with all of them and shut them down before innocent consumers are ripped off.
5. Become a Personal Shopper
Did you know you can receive 25% off all your beauty and jewelry products, and 20% off all your fashion and home goods? And you don’t have to sell if you don’t want to. You can become a “Personal Shopper” by signing up with Avon for free!
No kidding. There are no requirements, no sales quotas, no territories.
To receive your discount, you just need to place an order of $40 or more. Your account stays open for a full year after your last order, so even if you’re an infrequent shopper, you can still take advantage of this tip. The only caveat is that Representatives don’t get Free Shipping, so you’ll want to use your orders to stock up instead of placing several smaller orders.
As a Representative, you’ll also be able to take advantage of exclusive bundle deals where you can buy products at up to 75% off retail, and you’ll be eligible for all the incentives offered by Avon too.
